The Alamo Drafthouse is known as being one of the best theatre’s in America, with a real passion for entertainment and cinema; it doesn’t show ads before screenings and gives artists the chance to produce their own versions of posters for upcoming shows like the Total Recall poster here.
This August they’ve continued the trend for artworking events as it set’s out on a tour across America in their Rolling Roadshow. This time we’re treated to a whole collection of cult movies including the likes of Robocop, Dirty Harry, and Rocky, all of which are lovingly recreated by Olly Moss in his heavily influenced Saul Bass style with a nice choice of orange to really make the collection stand out as a vibrant and exciting whole.

James Jarvis tees with Stussy
James Jarvis (hit up his blog here) has teamed up with clothing brand company Stussy, to use his unique style of quirky illustration in creating three graphic t-shirts.
I particulary like “dance now, think later” which for me stands out from the fun commentary Jarvis uses on his designs about music, art and life. The t-shirts are currently available for purchase online at the North American division of Stussy. As part of the collaboration, Stussy also got an interesting interview with Jarvis where he talks about everything from how he developed his illustrations at a young age to his range of inspirations, as seen below.
Iron Man 2 poster and other delights
Tyler Stout has created this rather awesome graphic print for The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in celebration for the latest Iron Man installation. I love his style of using few colours and simple linear illustration, yet merging lots of strong imagery to help create a vivid and exciting environment to homage the content.
Below are a few other pieces from Tyler; Total Recall, Lost and Flight of the Conchords
tea towels
Almost worth spilling your tea and creating a right old mess, just so you can get yourself over to todryfor and purchase some fantastic tea towels for the clean up.
An online boutique specialising in designer tea towels, they’re a husband and wife team based in Oxford, England, which source over a hundred tea towels from artists, designers and illustrators including the likes of Robert Ryan, Julia Pott, Donna Wilson and Darling Clementine.
Here, I’ve featured a few of my favs, but get yourself over to the ‘To Dry For‘ site for the full range. I’m now ordering the ‘Use my Beard’…
Mr Bingo, Somerset House
If you haven’t heard of Mr Bingo, then shame on you. And shame on me for not blogging his awesomeness sooner.
You can currently find his instantly recognisable style amongst other at the Pick Me Up exhibition on at Somerset House, but you’ll have to be quick, it’ll all be wrapped up by 3rd May.
For more Bingo, check out his Flickr stream.
Tavis Coburn BAFTA posters
Anyone see the BAFTA’s the other night?
I think the nights big winners were the film titles who got to be part of this really nice graphic interpretation by Tavis Coburn, as a set of brochure covers for the awards ceremony.
Much like the event itself, I think the Hurt Locker design stands out the most to me. See more at Coburn’s agency site including ‘An Education’, ‘Precious’ and ‘Up in the Air’.
Illustration Monday – He is Kee
I love a bit of illustration to ease these Monday mornings.
Here’s a sample from some of the great work being created from up and coming London based illustrator Kee. Whilst playing with different styles, there’s a real progression in his work and it’s his quirky linear charactures set against block colours which really stand out for me. Will be intregued to see what else comes out of this talent in the future.
Mutant hands
Some more fantastic illustration work, this time coming form the talented Mutant Hands of James Wignall.
Impressed with the diverse style applied to his work, ranging from linear to minimal to more eastern style.
Robert Samuel Hanson
Here’s some ‘Love to start the week off to the view of inspirational illustrations’ time.
Found myself at the Robert Samuel Hanson site a few days ago and love his style for turning city views or office/mundane objects, striping them down to a minimal presence and yet applying a fun and charming style to give them a sense of optimistic character.
Apart from the images I pinched off his site here, be sure to check out his ‘Abc…’ work. Awesome.
For more regular updates, head over for to his tumblr, for some tumbling action by the illustration.
You’re going down Comic Sans… plus other nice work from Nebojsa Cvetkovic
More schoolboy bullying tactics against that awful Comic Sans, and done with style thanks to the design talents Nebojsa Cvetkovic, an illustrator from Serbia. Check out some more of his lovely work on Behance. In the meantime I’m going to see if I can initiate myself into the Design Gang…
