You either Cannes or you Cannt

So the Cannes Lions is next week, and let’s face it, there’s of unnoticed talent which got left behind. So that’s why this year there’s the Cannt festival, to thank people who’ve worked on some great projects but didn’t make it to Cannes. It’s also running next week and includes sponsers from Wieden+Kennedy, Dare, Special Moves, Lbi, AMV, Soup and Skive.

And if you’re young enough, you can get involved with the event ‘Cannt Skinny Cubs‘, the Cannt version of the Young Lions, a 48 hour brief for young creatives to show their ideas off.
You can download brief from 7.30pm on the 22nd, and there’s a kick off event at Juno on Shoreditch High Street next Wednesday evening, and the winner will be announced at the Lbi after-party on Friday.

nike 78 – trainers how they should be

Wieden & Kennedy Tokyo Lab Nike Air Abuku

This great little project was created by Paul Jenkins, who with 78 old Nike trainers was able to conjur up the creative power from industry titans in developing their own Nike inspired trainer.

It’s nice to see that the designers took part in this simply out of their love to create and the results look to be outstanding, with efforts ranging from the above Wieden & Kennedy Tokyo Lab’s goldfish bowl-trainers to an animation from 8bit guru eBoy. Below are more of my personal favourites, but you can find the whole collection at the Nike78 site. It’s also looking like it will be featured for a showcase appearance at this years London Design Festival.

bnko toyz

bnko_sharptrooper_1

Just stumbled across this rather cool piece of Toyz adaptation, recently created by Ben Collette at his bnko studio blog “no glue involved. Friction fit and high level surgery operations.”
Love the attention to detail and use of mixed media for this piece which seems to have taken influence from his previous steampunk Munny adaption, as seen below.

tea towels

use my beard to dry your dishes

use my beard to dry your dishes

Almost worth spilling your tea and creating a right old mess, just so you can get yourself over to todryfor and purchase some fantastic tea towels for the clean up.

An online boutique specialising in designer tea towels, they’re a husband and wife team based in Oxford, England, which source over a hundred tea towels from artists, designers and illustrators including the likes of Robert Ryan, Julia Pott, Donna Wilson and Darling Clementine.

Here, I’ve featured a few of my favs, but get yourself over to the ‘To Dry For‘ site for the full range. I’m now ordering the ‘Use my Beard’…

Interactive video wall in Montreal

Recently pitched to a client for an idea to use imagery which could be projected through a digital screen, and allow the public to interact with it. Then just recently came across this amazing LED video wall in Montreal which interacts with the public, causing different visual lighting patterns according to movement. I love the vibrancy captured here in the video as well as all the bright visual formations created simply by movement, resulting in giving people a real relationship with the urban area.

Moment Factory developed the interactive system and designed the interactive content which uses 35,000 LED light bulbs to help create this unique urban experience.

I’m here

“I’m here – A love story in an Absolut world”, a 30 minute short film in which see’s more cutesy Spike Jonze direction, this time for Absolut.

It’s been described as a ‘robot love story’, or perhaps better called, a rob-rom… It also premiered at the Sundance.

It nice to see a company giving creative freedom and funding towards the arts with a no strings attached (or maybe I mean in this case bottles of Vodka) attitude, as Jonze explains “They didn’t give me any requirements to make a movie that had anything to do with vodka. They just wanted me to make something that was important to me, and let my imagination take me wherever I wanted. And it wasn’t like working with some huge corporation where I had to meet with committees of people. It was just a small group, and it seemed like creativity and making something that affected them emotionally was the only thing that really mattered to them. I got to make my first love story. It’s about the relationship between two robots living in Los Angeles.”

Bubol by Hipopotam Studio

Bubol monster fight sight 1

Stumbled upon this great site, perfect to start the week with. Bubol is a wacky little flash site where you create yourself a bizarre looking monster and send him into battle against other users online. Alternatively you can just squash bugs which roam across the screen. There is a beautiful naive illustrative style setting the tonne of a fun, playful site which when you hit the ‘WTF’ button, gives the perfect reason why this site was created. Really looking forward to finding sites with similar ethos.

Bubol monster fight sight 2

Created by Polish studio Hipopotam, which after further investigation has it’s own equally post-worthy website. A must visit for any creative. I’m currently enjoying their edits and snippits of pop culture interwoven with what looks like a baby hippo. Check out their t-shirt section too…

Fight with a Bubol here.

Lost Valentinos AR music vid

Wow, loving this augmented reality music promotion from Lost Valentinos.

As you can see from the vid, the idea is that you print out the indivdual band members icons and use with your webcam to bring to life their latest track.

This is one of the better uses of AR for promotional content. It shows a really rich level of interactivity, encouraging you to be creative and have fun with the band members on multiple levels.

Have a go yourself at their site here.

All credit goes to the great SoSticky for this awesome find.
